We want to help you rewrite the stories that are shaping your problems
Why do we exist?
At Thread we believe that real understanding is becoming lost. The world is moving faster and complex challenges are being met with quick fixes. We exist because we believe that change will come when we are pausing and taking time to understand what’s really happening — the people, relationships, patterns and stories shaping the problem.
We are here to help you do this by equipping you with a psychological lens that allows the complex and confusing to feel clear and contained.
for people
Life can leave us feeling stuck, overwhelmed and uncertain. We are here to help individuals make sense of their experiences, understand the patterns that are impacting on them and discover a real way of moving forward. We are here for people from all walks of life, with all types of challenges.
We exist
for teams
Teams thrive when they are psychologically safe. Relationships, communication patterns and behaviours can stop teams from achieving this. We support teams to create safer, more meaningful relationships with one another so they achieve better outcomes. Whether your team is becoming interpersonally stuck or you are a new team looking to start off right, we are here to help.
We exist
for organisations
Every organisation experiences challenges, periods of change and opportunities for growth. Using psychological thinking, we want to help uncover the collective stories that are holding organisations back. Developing organisational insight helps improve decision making, strengthen connection and create sustainable change.
We exist
Who are we?
We are HCPC registered Clinical Psychologists with a passion for finding clarity within complexity. We draw upon years of clinical experience, working with a range of therapeutic models to bring you bespoke psychological understanding that makes sense to you.
Our experiences have taught us that giving proper space and time to people in order to really understand their world is what leads to the best outcomes. As Clinical Psychologists we want to know “what has happened” and“what is happening” so that we can find depth and meaning to your stories. We then hold these stories as our tools for change as we look to rewrite them with you.
Dr Lewis Marston
Founder & Clinical Psychologist
I am a HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist with 15 years experience across the NHS, third sector, corporate settings and high-performance sport environments. I’ve seen how people and their problems are unique, and they require unique support. Our experiences are shaped by the relationships, systems and environments around us, often in ways that are difficult to see when we’re moving too quickly.
I work relationally and systemically, bringing curiosity and psychological thinking to help make sense of what is happening. I believe meaningful change begins with taking the time to pause, understand the patterns at play, and think carefully about what might need to be different. Sometimes, slowing down is what helps us find understanding that can move us forward.
I am EMDR trained and in the process of completing my Cognitive Analytic Therapy practitioner training.
How do we work?
Complexity lives in that space between problem and solution. Relationships, challenges, traumas, changes, pains, successes, losses are all part of unique human life. In therapy, assessment and formulation are the foundations that help us make sense of these complex challenges; they give us an opportunity to create hypotheses about what is happening. At Thread we place a firm emphasis on this process and aim to make it accessible, collaborative and meaningful to you.
So at Thread, the basis of all our work begins (and sometimes ends) with the simple idea of understand, explore, shift. Once a firm Thread is found, we will work with you to figure out a path forward that you can take alone or alongside us.
Understand
We begin by establishing an understanding of the problem. We want to know what is happening for you and how you have made sense of it. We will then aim to bring a different way of thinking about the problem before then naming what the desired solution would be.
Explore
Once we have more understanding, we want to spend time with you exploring and finding depth to your situation and the key challenges that have happened. Here, we begin to make connections between what has happened and what is happening. This helps us find the Thread that can lead us towards the solution.
Shift
Finally, we look to see where change can happen. We explore options of solutions that can be made either together or given to you to focus on. Here, we want to help you make a shift that will over time create the changes that you are hoping to achieve.
